Aquarius a popular boat
The Bonito Aquarius 22, a trailer sailer made in glass-reinforced plastic (G.R.P.), is prctving to be a popular pleasure craft. The layout below features two full-length main cabin berths, two fulllength quarter berths, a forward cabin with a toilet and sail stowage, a reasonably sized galley equipped with a twobumer and-griller gas stove, a sink, and a bench, and a small chart table. On deck the cockpit is big and roomy. The Aquarius is well equipped for racing. Tiny sheet winches with their own jam cleats on the winch mounting take care of the headsails and the mainsail is sheeted forward in the cockpit on a
traveller. The genoa halyard leads aft to a jam cleat on the starboard side and the mainsail is hoisted at the mast. Mainsail shape is controlled with a cunningham eye and kicker. The rigging is also efficient. Recent modifications have equipped the boat with a light 15kg three-quarter rigged Baverstock spar which is easily set up. The tapered section is rigged along dinghy lines, lacking any fixed or running backstays. Sidestays are swept well aft to support the mast efficiently and the top of the mast remains unstayed. The Aquarius has been tested and found to be self-righting.
