Matai Dreamer may be good enough
P" Special correspondent Invercargill • Southland’s crack three-year-old colt, Matai Dreamer, will probably be good enough to overcome his handicap of 30m from a stand in the $5500 Southland Championship, for three-year-olds, second leg of the T.A.B. double al the Invercargill Trotting Club's meeting today. The Frosty Dream colt has always been a dubious proposition from a standing start on his own from handicap marks. He can begin reasonably well from a stand alongside other horses, but is back on the 30m mark on his own today. That predicament might be his main obstacle to success. If he can begin anything like reasonably, though, his superior class will stand to him. Trainer Alex Milne senior reports that he is “quite well’’ again after his heavy fail during the preliminary o; his last start at Addington. If that mishap his not shaken his confidence. Matai Dreamer will show his exceptional ability. Lincmac and Solar Hanover, the two principals in the Southland Challenge Stakes, have fared well In the draw and seem certain to give good accounts of themselves again. Both are talented and should be prominent from the outset. Ostrava, the Derby run-ner-up. compounded to finish ninth the first day, after trying to lead over the last 1400 m. He has been inconvenienced by a mouth irritation and, if he can throw off the problem in time, deserves another chance to reveal his undoubted worth. Eastern Chance, to be dri-
ven by Bob Cameron, has been a shade disappointing of late, attributable to a ’ minor poisoning problem. I The pick of the others may be Mark Antony, a member of Maurice SkinI ner’s team, which has been under-rated and is still at the improving stage. The first leg is the South- ’ ern City Handicap, for ' which Craig Del may be the favourite, with Falimento and Key Miss also favoured.
