Once Eliza looks a Foxton winner

Special correspondent I Wellington Once Eliza, a candidate for the New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on Saturday week, will enhance her prospects for the classic by winning the Reichenhach Handicap. first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Foxton Racing Clubs restricted permit fixture today. The Oncidium filly was most impressive when she lost her maiden certificate at Woodville last week, winning by two lengths with a strong finishing run over 2000 m. Today’s race is 200 in further, but Once Eliza shaped well enough over the distance at Tauherenikau two starts back to suggest that the trip is within her compass. She got well back in the running, but powered home in the straight to finish sixth, not far from the leaders on the line. Once Eliza will face stiff competition from Wistful, which has been placed consistently this campaign. On the first day of the Woodville meeting Wistful finished fourth on the heels of the first three over the line and on the second day came up against the improved Guided Missile and was second, though hardly disgraced. Both of those races were over 2200 m so there is no doubt that Wistful will see oi.t the trip today. Sungold is another that will be hard to down. The gelding won gamely over the extended 2000 m at Wanganui before Christmas and two races since over a distance of ground have seen him finishing strongly and tanking ground on the leaders from fairly well back in the field on each occasion. Vogue, appears likely to f-e the hardest to beat in the ffecond leg. the Bradbury Handicap.
