Leaflet explains TV, radio structure

PA Wellington The Broadcasting Tribunal has published a leaflet explaining the structure and control of broadcasting in New Zealand and the procedures for dealing’with complaints “With the help of the Broadcasting Corporation and the Independent Broadcasters' Association we have set out to explain who owns and runs broadcasting stations in New Zealand and to clear up the confusion which exists about the role of the tri bunal and the functions of other controlling bodies in broadcasting." said the chairman (Mr B. H. Slane). “An example of this confusion is the number of news reports which refer to the Broadcasting Council, a body which went out of existence on January 31, 1977. Some of the reports intend to refer to the functions now carried out by the board of the Broadcasting Corporation and in others to powers now exercised by the tribunal. “It is apparently not appreciated that the tribunal works completely independently and judicially in dealing with complaints," he said. Copies of the leaflet will soon be available free from all radio and television stations and from the tribunal’s offices.
