Court escaper recaptured
A youth who escaped from police custody in ChristMagistrate’s Court in Christchurch yesterday afternoon was recaptured last evening. Stephen James Walker, aged 17. unemployed, had been sentenced to Borstal training after he appeared on 38 charges. These included fraud, burglary, theft, escaping from custody, unlawfully; I taking a vehicle, breaching periodic detention, possessing! ;a firearm, and driving while! disqualified. ! He was being escorted to a police car outside the court about 2.45 p.m. when he ran off. i The police gave chase but ihe escaped in the busy city I streets-. ! However, Walker was re-; (cognised in England Street, 'Linwood, about 7.30p.m. The i area Was cordoned and he | was recaptured without inci‘dent.
