New Year’s Eve silent on ZM’s
PA Wellington The Broadcasting Tribunal has refused an application by the Broadcasting Corporation for an amendment to the warrants held by its ZM stations to enable Radio New Zealand to broadcast an all-night programme each New Year’s Eve.
The stations normally start transmission at 6 a.m. and close at midnight.
The application was opposed by the warrant holders for Radio Hauraki and Radio I in Auckland, Radio Windy in Wellington, and Radio Avon in Christchurch. The tribunal was not convinced that a need had been shown to exist, nor did it consider that the desirability of the service in the public interest outweighed other factors to be considered.
