Police seize counterfeit U.S. notes
Christchurch fraud squad detectives have now recov-j ered more than $4300 worth of counterfeit United States currency in the city. . They believe that much more might have been cashed at trading banks, and a team of detectives is continuing inquiries. The $4300 recovered so far was almost all in $lOO and $2O notes, said Detective Sergeant M. Rosswell, of the Christchurch fraud squad. l(inquiries have been made. The police are holding a l man who is alleged to have cashed big numbers of forged notes in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. The man is, Philip Henry Cedillos, aged 21, a student, of Repulse Bay, Hong Kong, who was born in the United States. He appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland on Tuesday and entered no plea to a charge that on November 25 he attempted to take $17,000 out of New Zealand without the consent of the Reserve Bank.
