“Public tolerance” of homosexuality

j Sir, — Mrs N. R. Raine’s objection (“The Press” October 19) to the Mental Health Foundation’s grant to Gayline indicates that she is obviously not aware that a significant proportion of those who contributed to the telethon appeal were gay. In fact Gayline received only about 0.2 per cent of the estimated $200,000 donated bj’ gay individuals to the appeal. I was disappointed that at least some of the other $199,500 was not spent on providing some factual information on homosexuality, so that the intolerance, slanderous lies and hatred, I propagated through schools! and media by the Christian! churches, established in- i stitutions and paranoid psy-1 chologists, would no longer! intimidate gay people to such extent that they require counselling from Gayline to regain some of their self-esteem. — Yours, etc.,

MARTIN OELDERINK. October 19, 1978.
