Sir, — Mr Gormack, Chairman of the National Party in Lyttelton, does not know the facts and rushes prematurely into print. I am one of the many people who did not receive earlier in the year, a white card notifying me that I was on the roll. As it is unlawful not to be on the roll, it was my duty to get this fixed up. As I have a bad hip and do not walk easily, the Labour Party brought an enrolment form to my house, helped me fill it in, and sent it away for me. I know they have done the same for hundreds of others, regardless of political affiliation. The proof of the Labour Party’s action came when the main roll, published in July, had my name included. Surely what I did, and what the Labour Party did was not indiscriminate action creating confusion, as Mr Gormack suggests, but sensible, law-abiding concern which got results. — Yours, etc., F. J. LILLEY. October 16, 1978. j
