Turner ban off

From

R. T. BRITTENDEN

The suspension imposed on Glenn Turner in June, after a dispute about the repayment of air fares to the New Zealand Cricket Council, has been withdrawn. Turner met four members of the board of control at Worcester yesterday, after which the chairman of the board, Mr Walter Hadlee, issued a statement which had been agreed upon mutually. It read: "Turner expressed his wish to serve the interests of New Zealand cricket. The refund of the air fares has been arranged to the satisfaction of both parties. It was agreed that confusion had arisen since a new con-

tract had been entered Into in 1975 which altered the timing of the payments and the board had not in fact withheld payments of air fares for periods of up to six months.

“He also agrees that he was invited to take a full part in the present tour, and his decision not to play was his alone.

“Turner also accepts that there was a misinterpretation of the chairman’s statement that it was a pity he had not been born elsewhere, and that this statement was merely an expression of sympathy that New Zealand did not have the financial resources of the larger test match countries.”
