Traffic to Coast cut
Snow was still disrupting traffic at Arthur’s Pass yesterday, and motorists were told that chains were essential. The road was closed on Wednesday night and Thursday night, and at intervals yesterday when then heavy snowfall outstripped efforts to clear it. Some traffic was still get-
ting through at times however. The Automobile Association (Canterbury) said it would be unwise to travel at night in the area. Snow also made it advisable to use chains over the Lewis Pass, and they were essential at ths Lindis Pass.
