Linwood stays ahead in club table tennis
Linwood maintained Its grip on the A grade winter table tennis championship with a decisive win against Riccarton II in the latest round. Riccarton’s Stuart Armstrong lost in straight games to Michael Hamel but recorded surprisingly easy wins against Ling Nan Ming and Gary Saunders. Hamel was the outstanding Linwood player, winning three singles, but Saunders was well beaten by the defensive John Armstrong. Although without a third player. Bill Scott and Neville Brightwell did well for Selwyn: and drew with Riccarton I. Colin Tipper’s win against Brightwell was Riccarton’s only success but it won five matches by default. A good win by Mark Clasper over the South Island representative, Yee Chow Boi, gave Avonside H a win against University on a count-back of games. John Richards helped Avonside’s cause by beating Richard Dixon, 26-24, in the vital game. The reliable Dennis Kalin continued his good form and] helped Dallington to a narrow j win against Avonside ITT. Kalin,] although taken to advantage i points in the third game by
