Worcester overhauled in cricket
NZPA-Reuter. London Somerset and Hampshire leap-frogged over Worcestershire at the top of the 40over Sunday Cricket League in the latest round, but Leicestershire, the holder, beat Essex by seven wickets and moved into third place. The Antiguan Viv Richards hit 81 (three sixes, four fours) in 24 overs to set Somerset on course to overhaul the Northamptonshire score of 167 for seven, but it lost impetus and had only four balls left when it clinched a three-wicket win. At Cheltenham, Hampshire’s 169, with Gordon Greenidge (48) as chief contributor, always looked beyond the reach of Gloucestershire, which was all out for 122. Christopher Cowdrey hit 74 at Worcester as Kent took its score to 208 for six. Worcestershire stood at 62 for one after 10 overs but faded and was all out for 151.
