Left turn at red light

Sir, — I find myself in complete agreement with Mrs E. H. Lorking (July 26). Being elderly and hampered by an arthritic hip, I find I am very slow in movement. When obliged to do necessary shopping I wait at light-controlled crossings. When obeying the signal to “cross” I would indeed be terrified to find a car bearing down on me to make a left-hand turn against a red light. I would be unable to scuttle across quickly or jump back to safety on the footpath. So I would ask the motorist, have patience — no left-hand turn against the red light. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) E. F. OXENBRIDGE? July 27, 1978.
