Alcoa profit fell 25 p.c.
NZPA Perth Alcoa of Australia, Ltd reports that net profit for the half-year to June 30 fell 24.9 per cent to sAust2s.4M, compared with the previous corresponding half-year. The directors said that the lower profits reflected slightly lower shipments for both alumina, and aluminium, and also higher costs. They did not indicate the reason for the lower shipments, but it is understood th the drop in shipments is a result of the seasonal pattern of demand for alumina, and aluminium. No interim dividend was declared, but the directors said that the interim results were unaudited, and that the "net profit for the year is not necessarily an indication of the result for the full year.”
