Christians in South Africa

Sir, — I would like to remind the South African Consul-General, Mr Lindhorst, thaf the Christian creed consists of loving one’s neighbour as oneself, forgiving one’s enemies and treating others as one would like to be treated. The law in most countries ostensibly grants equal treatment to all its citizens and breaches are often covert. South Africa, however, employs the full might of its law to prevent the majority of its people enjoying basic freedoms and equal rights. Such repressive policies are claimed to combat communism, yet a glance at history shows that communism thrives only in such circumstances. Separate development is not freedom. South Africa will be engulfed as a direct result of the present attitudes of selfinterest. The money and technology to develop South Africa may have come from outside but the toll and sweat came from indigenous people. Therefore thev should share qually in the harvest. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) H. M. COOK. July 14, 1978.
