Human rights officers
Applications have been called for five executive officers to service the Human Rights Commission, expected to begin work in September. The positions are for an administrative officer, a secretary, a research officer, and two investigating officers. The administration officer is expected to have accounting knowledge and the other staff to have tertiary qualifications. They will administer the Human Rights Commission Act, 1977, designed to promote human rights. The commission’s chairman (Mr P. J. Downey) is at present studying human rights legislation and practice overseas and is expected to return at the end of July.
