Hills top-scorers
PA Hamilton The New Zealand representative basketball brothers. Stan and John Hill, could be facing each other in the final of the national men’s club championships on Saturday, going by last night’s firstround matches in Hamilton. An experienced centre forward. Stan Hill scored a casual 30 points in Mount Wellington’s easy 100-56 win over f North Shore’s Ocean Pacific, and John Hill top scored with 21 points in Jaks High School Old Boys’ 84-68 win over Centrals (Wellington).
Both teams displayed the scoring power and control that should take them through to the final. John Whelan shot from everywhere to score 20 points for Jaks, while Matt Ruscoe netted 14 and took the “player of the match” award. In the other matches Otago University overcame a shocking first-half performance to beat Victoria University, 8656, after trailing, 23-26, at half-time. Napier’s Hadleigh Homes won the closest game of the night, beating Hamilton’s Flyers, 55-48, in a scrappy match.
