Foot and mouth disease
Sir, — So far I have noticed no recognition in your letter columns of the outstanding “Country Calendar” programme on the menace of foot and mouth disease. The clear manner in which this dreadful disease and its frightening consequences were portrayed on TVI on June 25 merits a tribv.te to the talents and dedication of the officers of the Department of Agriculture and the preparation and presentation by TVI. For this splendid documentary I believe we are the debtors of those who made it possible. I, like others, at times criticise our j television programmes tnit I believe this is an opportunity to recog-
nise real merit and I feel more secure when our primary industries are so zealously guarded. It was with great relief that I learned, at the conclusion, this programme was a simulated one. — Yours, etc., NOEL RATHBURN. June 29, 1978.
