Education system
Sir, — If teachers and teaching systems are not at fault (Mr Gandar) then we should be looking further afield, not only for lack of knowledge of the basics but for what is behind the current undisciplined behaviour of many school children. A close look at private radio stations and their distasteful programmes, both of music and speech, bears careful inspection of their value to any community and especially to transistor-crazy children. Pop and rock, music concerts, discos and the like where young minds and bodies are whipped into a frenzy of excited and irrational behaviour lead to much trouble and are provided wholly for the purpose of lining the pockets of entrepreneurs who care nothing for normal patterns of work and play in life. Parents should watch the diet of their children as far too many appear to consume unsuitable foods, not designed to nourish properly. Hungry children are inattentive children. — Yours, etc., J. E. HUDSON. June 22, 1978.
