Child-bearing age

Sir, — Miss Patricia Bartlett’s belief that “giving birth is as normal a function for a 15 or 16-year-old girl as it is to eat or sleep.” (June 10) appals me. This is typical of S.P.U.C. attitudes regarding the rights of the foetus above all else. Does Miss Bartlett really believe that a healthy body is all that is needed to produce a healthy mind, fitted to succeed in the twenty-first century? Perhaps Miss Bartlett would do better to concentrate on the insidious effect of sex-orientated advertising on the young, rather than victimise its victims. — Yours, etc., JOYCE EVENDEN. June 10, 1978.
