Quiet market falls

Australian sharemarkets were quiet yesterday, and falls were shown in the prices of many stocks. Leading industrials were steady or down a few cents. B.H.P. lost 4c to 696 c, Bank of N.S.W. lost 2c to 614 c, and C.S.R. 2c to 300 c. Meat producers and exporters were given a small boost by news of the higher United States imports, which will favour Australian beef growers. Anderson Meat gained 3c to 30c, F. J. Walker rose 4c to 92c, and Tancred gained 5c to 170 c. The mining sector was well down on volume compared with recent weeks.

Western Mining rose 7c to I 144 c after announcement of copper assays at Benambra.
