Two riders suspended
PA Wellington. Two riders were suspended after racing at Trentham on Saturday. Both Philip Smith and Ken Nightingale were put out for three days. Smith’s suspension followed the rannlng of the Wadestow-n Handicap and Nightingale’s the Cuddle Stakes.
After 200 m of the Wadestown Handicap Red Terror suffered a quite severe interference when he was crowded by Show Town, which in turn was hampered by Kanga’s Lad. Smith’s ride, when that runner crossed too quickly. Smith was suspended up to and Including May 13. Nightingale’s suspension came after an-incident near th e end of the back straight in the Cuddle Stakes. My Binnie. when midfield and one off the fence, was severely checked when Red Roma crossed in front of her. Sterling Gold on the inside of My Binnie. suffered interference and came into contact with the running rail. In fixing the penalty., also a suspension up to and including May 13, the Judicial Committee took into account Nightingale’s good record and also Red Roma’s lack of racing experience. Nightingale. it was conceded, also took some corrective measures. In the Miramar Handicap three runners. Top Grade, which ran second. Melody Morn and King Size, were all unhappy in the ground.
