Bideford sold
PA Dunedin Bideford, the Wingatui galloper, has been sold to England as a hurdler and will leave on the first available flight. Bideford, which has yet to race over fences, won at the Wairio and Otago meetings last month, and was successful twice last season.
He was raced by his trainer, John Dowling, Messrs Dave May, of Clydevale, and Robert Morris, of Deborah Bay, on lease with right to purchase from Mrs G. Prescott, of Hamilton.
The four-year-old Bally Royal— Dulari gelding, a qualified hurdler, was bought by the agents, Ken Browne, of Cambridge, and Jack Doyle, of Dublin, who has been visiting New Zealand and saw Bideford win at Wingatui. Bideford is to join the Berkshire stable of Stan Mellor, who has enjoyed success this season with the New Zealand-bred hurdlers, Royal Stuart and Explorateur. Royal Stuart is by Bideford’s sire. Bally Royal. Bideford will not start in the Hokonul Hurdles at Winton today. "He is wanted in England as a non-jumping winner, as he can stay in maiden ranks all season, regardless of the number of races he wins,” Browne said.
