David Peake to ride at Winton
New Zealand’s leading jockey, David Peake, is to return to Invercargill on Monday to ride at the Winton Jockey Club’s meeting. At the corresponding meeting last year he combined successfully with Tiva and Shift Time to take out the T.A.B. double. Peake will attempt to repeat the feat on Anpod and Bellus on Monday. He will ride Anrod in the first leg, the Ron Rico Rum Handicap/ and ironically, Shift Time and Tiva are both clown to contest the event and are likely to be Anrod’s strongest rivals.
Peake also rode Final Tribute, Bellus and Royalmaris into minor placings last year and with mounts
on Purple Image, Lochnarnond, Anna’s Girl and Balsen’s Bank this year, ha looks set for another suecessful day. The Takanini apprentice, Paul Hillis, who has ridden numerous winners through, out the South Island in fiecent weeks is also to travel south for the meeting. “ Hillis’s mounts include Lady Claymore, which fie rode to an upset victory it Riverton last month, and Rapid Flight, Scotch Lags, Grey Symbol and Felucca, on all of which he has recently had success. He will also ride the nov« ices, Baby Snip and Buzz Bee, and Wayleggo in the Winton Steeplechase.
