Fault cuts power

About 140 houses in Upper Riccarton were without power for up to an hour and a half last evening after a fault occurred in an 11,000-volt insulator in Athol Terrace. The fault caused the rain-soaked cross-arm of a power pole to bum out. The failure occurred about 7.30 p.m. but M.E.D. workers had partly restored power by 8.5 p.m. Some repairs were needed before full power was restored at 8.50 p.m. A spokesman said that the M.E.D. was not sure yet how the insulator fault occurred.
