Last sale of fallen logs
The final shipment of windblown logs salvaged from forests in Canterbury has been sold to the Sammissa Company, of Korea, the Minister of Forests (Mr V. S. Young) has announced. However, Korean companies, which have been the main buyer of windblown logs over the last year, will continue to be supplied with logs—mainly from the Bay of Plentv—according to Mr Young. These will include logs from thinning which are surplus to local requirements. “At recent negotiations overseas, Forest Service officers successfully' concluded sales which will earn New Zealand SSM over the next six months. Sixty per cent of Forest Service log exports will go to regular buyers in Japan, with the balance to Korea,’’ he said.
