J. McKay fined $60
PA Invercargill J. D. McKay incurred a fine of $6O for careless riding at the Wairio Jockey Club’s meeting at Ascot Park on Saturday. After the running of the Ohai Handicap, an inquiry was held into an incident xvhich caused Charmaid (D. Adams), when racing between Brodie (J. D. McKay) and Ain’t Misbehavin (B. Hibberd) to fall at the 800 m peg. McKay was charged with careless riding, improving where there was insufficient room on the inside of Charmaid. and causing the incident. After hearing from Adams, {Hibberd and K. W. Morton (rider 'of Kindiei which xvas racing be{hind Charmaid. and viewing the film, the committee upheld the charge and fined McKay $6O. In coming to this decision, the committee took into account that Brodie was a difficult horse to I ride.
After the running of the race,! McKax weighed in o.skg in excess of his weighed-out weight. McKay was charged and. after? hearing an explanation from McKay. the committee upheld the. charge and fined him the minimum of Sl5. After the running of the Nightcaps Handicap No. 2, K. W. Morton, rider of Palaman. which finished second, lodged a protest against the winner, Anne’s Girl (M. W. Blackley), alleging interference shortly after enter-j ing the home straight. After' hearing evidence the committee found that Anna’s Girl had? shifted in when not sufficiently! clear of Palaman and that Paia-, man had to be switched to the; outside to get a run. The committee considered that j. the interference xvas not sufficient to alter the judge’s plac- i ings. Blackley xvas later charged and fined §4O.
