Meredith shines

The Canterbury billiards champion, Dave Meredith, showed that he had suffered no ill effects from a temporary lay-off when he scored the highest total in the first round of the inter-club competition. Meredith (Shirley A), who took a deserved rest after the world open tournament last December, scored an impressive 395 points in his one-hour game against Ernie Greaves (New Brighton R.S.A.), who managed 106. Meredith also had the highest break of the round, 97. Canterbury’s other leading cueist. Brian Kirkness (Riccarton), did not begin so well. He was well beaten, 231-148, by Don Houghton (Hornby A). However. Hornby A, the defending chain pion, was still beaten, 2-1, by Riccarton.
