Rough start to rugby in Taranaki

PA New Plymouth A referee was punched by a player who was ordered off the field in a senior second division rugby match between Stratford Old Boys and Inglewood at Stratford. A Stratford forward, M. Hori, was ordered off by the referee, Mr B. Dodunski, after an incident involving an Inglewood player about 10 minutes before the end of the match. Before he left the field, Hori struck Mr Dodunski twice about the head. Other members of the Stratford team then left the field, and Mr Dodunski called off the match. Inglewood was leading. 25-3, at the time. Hori had [been penalised and warned by Mr Dodunski earlier in the match, which was the first of the season.
