Repeal of C.S. and A. Act
Sir, — It is ironic that those who opposed the former law on abortion should now be pressing for a repeal of the present law. This is especially so when one of their number, in referring to the old law, said: “About one or two cases appear a year in New Zealand when an honest reading of the law would allow termination of pregnancy.” How can a law be said to be unworkable when it has not been given the time or the obedience necessary to see if it works? Alan L. Wilkinson’s reference to Jesus is interesting. He omits to mention that Jesus stated on one occasion that even the most obnoxious of civil laws must be obeyed. — Yours, etc., ERICA JORDAN. April 6, 1978.
