No pleas from Japanese
Three Japanese fishermen from the arrested trawler Taiko Maru No. 2 entered no pleas when charged with breaches of New Zealand Economic Zone Regulations in the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington vesterdav. The charges relate to nets allegedly used for fishing from the boat while inside New Zealand waters. They were that the trawl net had more than one layer of mesh in the cod end and that the trawl net mesh which was in the cod end was less than 100 mm. The three accused were the captain of the vessel, Ryusuke Nagase, the bosun. Tamtosu Kawaguchi. and the chief officer. Shinya Araki. The three did not appear in Court but were represented by their counsel. Mr C. Carruthers. He said March 21 had been a-ranged as a date for the fixture to be heard.
