Sporting standards in cricket
Sir, —Your correspondent, L. C. Wood, is quite wrong in his assumption that Chatfield was under an obligation to advise the umpire of his intentions towards the nonstriker. I suggest that he obtains a copy of the laws of the game and read law 25 and law 41. He may then understand why umpire Goodall was not at fault, as he and Boycott suggested, but quite legally correct.— Yours, etc., PETER J. LOW. March 4, 1978.
