Weightman appeal fails
PA Wellington An appeal by John Weightman against conviction for the manslaughter of his wife, Sandra Anne Weightman, was dismissed by the Court of Appeal. The court also dismissed an appeal by Weightman, aged 37, a former airline ground steward, against the nine-year jail sentence imposed by Mr Justice Moller in the Supreme Court at Auckland for the manslaughter. After a three-week trial last year, a jury found Weightman not guilty of murder. It was Weightman’s second trial on a charge of ■ the murder of his wife in November, 1974. At the first trial the jury failed to agree. In spite of an intensive search by' police and Navy divers, Mrs Weightman’s body has not been found.
