South Africa’s race problems
Sir, —- In reply to Mr Lindhorst (“The Press,” February 22), history has shown that the only possible way a colonising people can survive is in a situation where either there is no native population already there, or the natives are reduced or overwhelmed sufficiently to pose no threat. Neither of these apply to present-day South Africa. The whites must be prepared for total separation as the homelands scheme can be only a temporary measure. The only definite solution is for the whites to withdraw leaving a viable amount of territory to the black people and for
each to follow their own destiny. — Yours, etc., J. HAMILTON. February 22. 1978.
