Tasman rates up
NZPA Sydney General cargo rates for the Union Steam Ship Company’s Tasman service will be increased by 6.5 per cent from the beginning of April. A spokesman for the company said the rates had been agreed with the Australian Shippers Council and would be held firm until the end of September, at least. The rise had become necessary as a result of rising costs and a reduction in trade between the two countries. The service was granted a 9 per cent increase from July last year.
