View of Integrity Outre

Sir, — Your report, of Monday night’s Christchurch City Council meeting suggests that I am opposed to the work of Mr Neville Rush and his Integrity Centre. I thought I made it very clear that such was not the case. I admire anyone who. works for the improvement of public standards of morality. What I opposed was the adoption by the City of Christchurch of the official slogan “Christchurch — City of Integrity.” — Yours, etc., HELEN GARRETT. February 21, 1978.

Sir. — The decision of the Christchurch City Council not to support a campaign for Integrity demonstrates a trend that has been slowly, but surely undermining the moral character of our nation for many years. Most

members of Parliament and many Government departments and public bodies will not jeopardise their own standing by taking a strong line on moral issues. The attitude is that, even though we know what is right, it is more polite or profitable to do what is wrong. The only remedy for this serious national state of disorder is for the ordinary man in the street, the housewife, and our young people to reject the double standards that riddle our society and reestablish honesty, truth and justice. 1978 is the year for integrity. 1979 could well be a year of calamity. — Yours, etc., NEVILLE M. RUSH, Integrity Centre. February 21, 1978.
