Glenn Turner unsure

NZPA London Glenn Turner, the former New Zealand cricket captain, is not sure whether he will be available for New Zealand’s forthcoming tour of England. He said he had been asked tn a letter by the New Zealand Cricket Council if he would be available just for the tests and would make his decision probably by the end of the month. Referring to criticisms of the umpiring and the state of the pitch in the Wellington test, Turner said: “England shouldn’t criticise anything other than

their own performence. After all, 130-odd shouldn’t be hard to get, even on a tricky pitch.’’ Turner added: “The win should create more interest in our tour over here this summer. England’s cricketing public has not recognised the ability in recent New’ Zealand teams, even though we have beaten everyone else."

But Turner is still not overconfident of New Zealand winning the present series. “The batting of both teams is unreliable and I believe England has greater depth in its seam attack,” he said.
