‘Dissolve N.Z.F.A.’
(By
DAVID LEGGAT)
One of the more Interesting remits-to come up for discussion at -the annual meeting of the New Zealand Football Association, beginning today in Wellington, is that the N.Z.F.A., in Its present form, be dissolved. The remit comes from the Wellington Football Association with the suggestion that the executive committee govern the affairs of the N.Z.F.A. It gives several reasons for the suggested change. It describes as “unwieldy” the nature of the decision-making process within the administrative structure of New Zealand soccer. It points out that the council meeting set down for November 10 last year was discontinued because of the lack of a quorum, indicating a lack of enthusiasm among members. The W.F.A. also states that it believes it is not necessary for every segment of New Zealand soccer to be directly involved tn the normal decision-making process. However, the W.F.A. adds that it is not concerned with the location of the executive but points out that in Wellington office costs are shared with other sporting organisations, a better proposition that could be arranged in most other centres.
Criticism has been levelled in the past at the New Zealand
Cricket Council’s board of control being Christchurch-based. If this remit was to be passed, which seems unlikely, the same criticism could be aimed at Wellington. It would be rather difficult for a Wellington-based executive to stay in touch with soccer, for example, in Invercargill or Gisborne.
