Sailors’ tempers flare

FA Wellington, | Yachtsmen in the national j catamaran championships spent' five hours — from 9 a.m. until} [2 p.m. — in their boats waiting for a breeze to spring on the Wellington Harbour yesterdav. When the one race for the day began yesterday afternoon it was obvious the hours of waiting had taken their toll on the yachtsmen’s patience. Three protests were lodged over incidents at the start. Brian Peat, in Tan-‘ zara Tunnel. filed protests against Top Cat and Liza Jill for not abiding by the give-way rules which apply in yachting. Gerald Sly, in Top Cat, the race s eventual winner, also protested against Tanzara Tunnel for a similar breach. The other incident involved an ex-Navy launch and the racing committee boat. which sank

when its bow was smashed as tho near-by launch attempted to pull |up anchor. Racing honours went to Pauline Amor, the only woman entrant, whose Arafura cadet Alkatraz won its class race.
