Newcomers in team
Two new players, from those of the last few years, have been included in the two Christchurch teams for the South Island final of the Rothmans inter-centre bowls tournament to be played, at Blenheim on February 4 ana 5. They are Bill Newburgh (Elmwood i. who won the open singles last summer, and Merv Robinson Barrington i. who earned his selection with his third placing iin the pairs al the national tour- , nament, which ended yesterday. Newburgh has, predictably, been named as one of the singles olayers and Robinson win pla\ third in one of the fours. The teams are: Singles, W. R. Wilkinson (Beckenham;: pairs. Neville Poole 'Sumner* and Kevin Darling ■Pananui W.M.C.); fours. Sonny Calder (Linwood), Cyril Thomp-.
son (Oxford). Robinson and Morgan Moffat (Linwood). Singles. Newburgh; pairs. Bernie Johns and Stan Law so 1 (both Christchurch); fours, JacH Edmonds. Bruce Sinclair (both St Albans;. Arnold Memory (Woo 1 - ston W.M.C.) and Travis Coup (Kaiapoi). Although the teams contain few surprises, Peter Meiei, JacW Dale and Tom Dixon tail Soutri Brighton, and Duncan Whits iPapanui. are excluded player* who have performed ably in' th* event in recent years. However, perhaps the unluckb jest is Roy Bailey (Mt Pleasant, who had a roo4 national tournament. Bn an Smith * Linwood* who yesterday vvor* the Nev. Zealand fours wit‘i Moffat, could also be considered unfortunate.
