An appropriation of p u b 1 i c money was accorded amendments to the Nurses’ Amendment Bill and the Wills Amendment Bill when Parliament sat at 9 a.m. yesterday. The Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) announced that the Govern’ ment had agreed to a suggestion by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Rowiing) to send the Children and Young Persons Amendment Bill to a select committee. A report on proposed action by the Government on certain instruments adopted at the sixtieth International Labour Conference was tabled. Mr Taiboys moved that next Wednesday the House adjourn for dinner at 4.30 p.m. for the annual meetings of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the InterParliamentary Union. Ministers answered 20 45 The Status of Children Amendment Bill was introduced and referred to the Statutes Revision
Committee for recess study.
The Education Amendment Bill, the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council Amendment Bill, and the Mutual Insurance Amend’ ment Bill were introduced. The Auckland City Council Litter Prevention Bill was introduced by Mr R. W. Prebble (Labour, Auckland Central) and referred to the Local Bills Committee, as was the Hawke’s Bay Catchment Board Empowering Bill (Mr G. Christie, Labour, Napier).
The Gaming and Lotteries Bill was referred back from the Statutes Revision Committee with amendment.
The Land Amendment Bill and the Forest and Rural Fires Bill were both read a third time.
The Nurses’ Amendment Bill, the Contractual Mistakes Bill and the Wills Amendment Bill were passed through their committee stages.
The second reading debate on the State Services Conditions of Employment Bill was interrupted by the 1 p.m. adjournment.
