Judging of spring garden competitions

The Canterbury Horticultural! Society’s spring garden eompe-l titions were judged yesterday! and although there were fewer: entries than last year the judges! reported a good standard. Mr J. C. Fraser, the society’s secretary, Said it had been expected that entries would be down -due to the wet winter and spring. The results were: Gardens of 775 sq. m and above.—Mrs A. K. Asher. 29 .Middlepark Road. 1: Mr and Mrs .1. Jefferies, 33 Wai-iti Terrace, 2; Mr and Mrs N. F Holland, 281 Memorial Avenue, 3. Gardens less than 775 sq. m.— E. Henry, 30 Staffa Street, 1 (no award made as the entrant did not gain enough points). Rock gardens.—Large: Mrs A. K. Asher, 29 Middlepark Road. Small: B. Prebble, 14 Cashmere View Road (no award made). The Christchurch Beautifying Association judged its annual spring garden competition on Sunday. The gardens in this competition are judged from the street, not from within the garden as in the Horticultural Society’s competition.
