That kind of September
Christchurch had its wettest September for 31 years suffering the highest number of wet days, 21, registered for that month, according to the Meteorological Office at Christchurch Airport and the Botanic Gardens. The heaviest rainfall was on September 20, when 18.5 mm fell at the Botanic Gardens. A total of 118 mm ifell during the month, when the average is usually 47mm. It was also the secondcoldest September recorded, the coldest being in 1931. The highest temperature was 21.2 deg recorded at lite airsport on September 28. The 'lowest was minus 3.Bdeg on 'September 2. > Sunshine hours were high iconsidering the wet month, 'being only 21 hours below ithe average of 164 hours. ■There were three sunless idays during the month. i Hail was recorded on six i days and there was a I thunderstorm on September 24.
