Award to Avonside player
The Avonside IV player, Richard Dixon, has been named junior table tennis player of the year by the New Zealand Table Tennis Association.
Dixon was one of five nominations received by the association which emphasised that the award was intended to encourage juniors to take an interest in either their club’s or association’s affairs.
Dixon, who won 23 of his 48 A grade inter-club matches this season, is a member of the executive of the Canterbury association. He showed he can compete at tournament level with the top players in the province when he was beaten by Les Stewart in the semi-finals of the South Canterbury championships at Timaru.
