Cycling worth $3200

Prize money for the Rothmans cycle tour of Southland, beginning at Invercargill on October 12, has been increased to $3200, making it the richest threeday cycling event in New Zealand. The riders will start with a 4km time trial and will cover 534 km in all. The first, and longest, stage of the tour will be over 96km on the morning of October 13 and that afternoon the second stage will be slightly shorter.

The second day will be split into three' sections, covering 186 km, with the final day’s ride bringing the competitors back to Invercargill. Many of New Zealand’s top cyclists have expressed interest in the tour and an 11-strong contingent is exgected from Canterbury, led y the internationally-recog-n i s e d cyclists, Blair Stockwell and Paul Jesson.

Australia will be represented by a team of five from the Sydney club, Sidcomb Aurburm.
