Big blaze destroys old hall
Fire destroyed a disused wooden hall in a back section behind 26 London Street, Richmond, late last evening.
In a spectacular blaze, which was seen as far away as New Brighton, the fire destroyed the 70ft by 20ft building within 20 minutes. Two fire engines concentrated on stopping the fire from spreading to nearby garages. The hall, formerly used by a judo club, was previously damaged by fire about three years ago.
The alarm was received by the Fire Service just before 10.45 p.m. A spokesman said last evening that the. cause of the blaze was not known.
