Japanese language scholarships
The Japanese Ministry of Education offers fiveyear scholarships to two New Zealand undergraduate students. Under the Monbusho Scholarship progra-.iime, the scholarships are offered to students wanting to major in the Japanese language at the special Department of Japanese Studies, attached to the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
The scholarships, which have been offered for several years, are aimed primarily at training future Japanese language teachers.
Applicants must be aged between 18 and 22 on April 1 next, and have New Zealand citizenship. They must have more than 12 years school education, and have University Entrance by March, 1978. Written selection examinations will be held. Successful applicants will have school fees waived, an allowance of $370 a month, and free economy class transport to and from Japan. Applicants should write for application forms to the Embassy of Japan, P.O. Box 6340, Te Aro, Wellington, giving details of their education. Formal applications must reach the embassy by September 16.
