Trevino shows dash at Addington trials

I Trevino, which has oeen off the scene for some months, showed that he was making grand progress for a new campaign when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. Trevino needs two wins to be eligible for the New Zealand Cup in November. As well as the Louisson Handicap, Trevino will be eligible for the Ribbonwood Handicap on the first night of the. national meeting. He looks to have thrived during his] long lay-off and should doi good service for Jack Smolenski’s stable this spring. i Mighty Gay began i smoothly for George Shand | and led over the last 2200 m.: He was not pushed when Trevino, four back mostly, challenged in the straight and he went down by half a length.

Rebecca’s Pride went well for one of his class by taking third a short length back, with four lengths to Scottish Chief, Bronze Regal and Worthy Lord, which was slow away.

The winner took 3min 34.75ec for the 2600 m, the last 400 m in 30.8 sec.

It was quite a respectable effort as the horses raced a

good five metres out from The fence. Alias Armbro, which has been away from racing since last October, led throughout the main race for trotters. In what amounted to a sprint over the last 300 m, he lasted it out well to beat Now by a length and a half, with Lord Rodney beating Life Line for third. The leader took 29.8 sec for his last 400 m and looks to be well on the way to staging a successful comeback. Bronze Trail looked in great heart when he proved a class above his slowerclass rivals over 2600 m in 3min 35.35ec, the last 400 m in 29.45ec. He should soon gain his first win since being trained by Denis Nyhan.

Del Joy and the Kurow Cup candidates, Creanza and Our Location, were next to finish.

Captain Forever, Carnival King, Our Tuft, True Peterson, Smooth Drive and Coy Lopez were slow-class handicap horses to show to advantage. Roydon Scott, which is not in at Kurow, showed dash to lead throughout the event for three-year-olds. He took 2min 46sec for the 2000 m, the last 400 m in 30.4 sec. He looks improved. Pinza ran out quite well for second, ahead of Captain!
