Another blow to open fire
There will probably’ be nc change in the present Pa parua County Council policy of banning open fires in new houses — on the advice ol the Canterbury Regions Planning Authority. The council sought advict about its policy after criticism of its ban on open fires as an approved method ol heating in new homes. I Advice from the Authority's air pollution committee [was received by the council's finance committee 'yesterday, saying it was confident there would be nc (shortage of electricity. j Efficient heating appliances would conserve energy, and reduce air pollution, the authority said. Open fires were the least efficient means of heating: wood had strong smoke-pro-ducing propensity, was often burned inefficiently, and supplies were limited.
